In 2003 a few independent tender owners got together to lend one voice to issues that were affecting their tendering operations. The Alaska Independent Tendermen’s Association (AITA) was formed by these tendermen coming together. Tendermen by their very nature are independent individuals so for them to unite to bring about change was quite monumental.
AITA is an association of independent tender vessel owners, operators and crew whose mission is to promote and protect the common business interest of its membership while maintaining a high standard of safety and quality in what we do. We want to keep Commercial Fish Tendering a viable business in Alaska for generations to come.
AITA is a non- profit trade association ~ 501 (c) (6). AITA is not a collective bargaining organization. Under no circumstances does AITA want to be involved with setting charter rates for commercial fish tendering vessels. That would go against being Independent. All positions within the association are volunteered by Alaska Tendermen. AITA is completely funded through its membership dues.
Every year we face more regulation and higher vessel maintenance costs. If we are to remain a viable part of the Alaska Commercial Fishing Industry, we need to pay attention and respond to proposed regulations and rule changes which can impose a profound effect on us as independent owners, operators and tender crew – we do not want to be regulated out of a job! Your support is necessary for this to happen. As independent business owners we cannot keep up with the changes individually. However, as a community we can join together to share ideas and information so that we stay informed and have a say in the rules and rule making processes that regulate the Alaska Tender Fleet.
Our goal is to have 100% participation from the Alaska Tender Fleet so please help us get the word out that there is a Tender Fleet organization
Thank you for your interest in AITA. We hope you will consider becoming a Member or Affiliate Member of AITA.
